Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are the services in English?
A: Yes! Aside from a few hymns and responses in Greek, each service is in English.

Q: What is the dress code like?
A: Come as you are. If you need some direction - think "Sunday best". Men typically wear long pants and a collared button-down or button-up shirt. Women are often in dresses, skirts, or dress pants. All are fine! We ask for no hats/baseball caps and no shorts. Please do not let your clothing deter you from coming to Saint John's. You may refer to the Parish Etiquette Booklet for more information.

Q: Am I able to attend Saint John's even if I am not Orthodox or Greek?
A: Yes! We invite anyone from any background to attend if they are interested in Orthodoxy. Our parish in particular is made up of about 95% converts (as of 2026). Most of us have been the "new people" in the doors at one time or another and remember what that feels like. We will do our best to welcome you!

Q: I am interested in Orthodoxy, but don't know where to start. Do you have any recommendations?
A: This playlist by Frederica Mathewes-Green is fantastic and covers a lot of the "intro to Orthodoxy" topics. They are all short (usually 2-3 minutes each) but cover a lot of ground.
